I made a quick scatter chart and applied automatic clustering in Power BI and uploaded to Power BI Public Web. I did this quickly using the same dataset as the Tableau Cluster chart, Mall Customers. This was not a deep dive or a comparison, just a simple exercise.
One thing to note – both Power BI and Tableau use a K-Means algorithm to determine the clustering, Tableau apparently taking it a bit further with K-Mean ++, I’ll have to dig deeper regarding Power BI. ChatGPT says “both use proprietary analytic engines” which of course they do, but R and Python are lurking in there somewhere…
Tableau and Power BI - same thing, right? In many ways they are. But when I use them both for the same deliverable, I am acutely aware of their differences, not similarities.
